I have two menorahs that I want to convert to 4.2V LiPoly batteries. The yellow one runs on 3.0V. The LEDs have a 2.1V drop and the stock resistors are 16 ohm. According to [this article](https://www.evilmadscientist.com/2012/resistors-for-leds/ “this article”),

    (3.0V – 2.1V) / 16 ohms = 56 mA

this is higher than the rated 30 mA. Is there some other factor, like the number of LEDs in the circuit? Is it dependent upon how the micro goes about turning each LED on?

Yes, you should use a larger resistor value when switching to LiPo.
