The steppers do not depend upon the servo. Can you please describe how the steppers are misbehaving? Is it possible that you have not adjusted the current yet?
Windell OskayKeymasterThe warning means that you need to convert the text in your drawing to a path before printing it to the EggBot. You can read more about how to make text on the EggBot here:
Windell OskayKeymasterGreat– always wonderful when a solution is straightforward. :)On the pen issue:The first question is, “Is the pen lift motor working?” That is to say, when you toggle the pen position up and down in the Setup tab, does the pen lift motor move?Assuming that it does, you then need to adjust the two percentage values there, such that (1) the pen arm is roughly horizontal, or very slightly below, when “down” and (2) The pen arm is very slightly above horizontal when in the “up” position. After that, put the EggBot in the “pen up” position, and insert the pen, so that it is just above — not touching — the egg (or other object that you are printing upon). You may need to adjust the vertical position of the upper pen arm in order to get it high or low enough for this.Windell OskayKeymasterCan you please say what operating system and version you are using?
And, can you please say what error you are getting?Windell OskayKeymasterThe WaterColorBot is controlled through an Inkscape extension, not through the “print” dialog. You’ll need to install the WaterColorBot software, and I’d recommend trying to paint some of our examples before creating your own.
The documentation is here: http://wiki.evilmadscientist.com/Inkscape_and_WaterColorBot
Windell OskayKeymasterOne thing that you might try — a long shot — is a different USB cable. (The WaterColorBot is extensively tested before shipping, but comes with a new USB cable.)
I am following up on the software side, to see what else we might be able to try from a diagnostic standpoint. In the mean time, you might consider giving the WaterColorBot’s Inkscape driver a try– it should get you up and running to at least try out the machine.Windell OskayKeymasterIf you had not restarted your computer since trying the previous version of RoboPaint, I would suggest trying that.
I will follow up here and see if there is anything else that I might suggest.Has your WaterColorBot worked with previous versions of RoboPaint, or are you just getting started?Windell OskayKeymasterOh — not a launch problem — you haven’t been able to install it yet. Got it.
The file RoboPaintMac_v2.0.0-Beta.1.dmg is a disk image (not an application) that should open up when you double click it.After double clicking on that icon, if you can’t see anything, try selecting from the menu Go > ComputerThe virtual disk (“Install RoboPaint”) should show up there.Inside that folder is the RoboPaint App, which you can drag to your Applications folder.Windell OskayKeymasterIf this is on an egg-shaped object, you may be running into map projection: http://wiki.evilmadscientist.com/Eggbot_Quality_Troubleshooting#Map_Projection
Windell OskayKeymasterTo summarize what we have so far:
1. We’re looking at a MacOS 10.11.1.2. Both EggBot Software 2.5.0 (which does not work on El Capitan) and the current version (2.6.4, which normally works on El Capitan) freeze when trying to contact the hardware.3. Version 2.5.0 did _not_ freeze when the EggBot was not physically connected.Does version 2.6.4 freeze when the EggBot is not physically connected? (It seems as though the freeze is related to not handling the serial timeout correctly.)Windell OskayKeymasterAh, yes– that’s El Capitan, not Yosemite.
Please install EggBot 2.6.4 and try again.Windell OskayKeymasterThat changes things; please try the latest version, 2.6.4, available here: https://github.com/evil-mad/EggBot/releases
Also, would you please so kind as to post the exact MacOS version number that you are running? (I am running 10.11.1, for example.)Windell OskayKeymasterOne possibility: Your gatekeeper is preventing it from opening. In the Finder on the Mac, select the RoboPaint icon. Right click (or control-click) the icon to get the contextual menu, and select “open” from that menu.
(If this is the issue, you will only need to open it like this the very first time.)Windell OskayKeymasterWell, Darn. That’s the first report that we’ve had of it *not* working. Can you please say at which stage it gets stuck?
