OK, great!
Windell OskayKeymasterWell, pens *are* hardware. The two eyes don’t look different (to me) in the original file, so there’s something going on with the hardware that is causing that difference. It could be the detailed shape of the egg, the angle of the pen, the dryness of the pen tip, the angle of the pen tip (sharpie tips do tend do deform over use), or so forth.
There are ways to narrow down exactly what the issue is. For example, if you reverse the path on the fill, so that it goes the other direction, will the “dark” eye move? Will a small change in the pen arm centering have an effect? Does being more careful with pen centering and height make a difference?Windell OskayKeymasterOn the file, those “moving a bit” parts do conspire to form a circle there. You can see a bit of the same thing on the thingiverse page. ( http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:84044 )
One thing that could be contributing to the difference is just how “wet” the tip of the pen is. It’s drawn quite a bit more ink on one side than the other, and could be leaving a different amount of ink behind for that reason.Windell OskayKeymasterIt does appear that the file has an extra outline (in peach) around the eye there. You may be able to remove it. Otherwise, it may be a matter of precisely positioning your pens in exactly the same way.
Windell OskayKeymasterNot sure– either exactly what the problem is nor what the solution is. This isn’t a particularly good test subject to try and diagnose high-precision issues with. Can you describe what you think the problem is?
Windell OskayKeymasterFirst, check that you have appropriate pen-up and pen-down heights, as shown in section 3.3 of the manual.Next, note that the “Timing” tab in EggBot Control has places to change the different timing parameters that control its operation. These include the speed of drawing, the speed of raising and lowering the pen, and the delay before moving after raising or lowering the pen. You likely need to adjust one of the latter two values. I’d suggest lowering the drawing speed quite a bit to see which one, and to verify that it’s doing the right thing.
Windell OskayKeymasterThe “Cancel” button in Inkscape doesn’t actually stop extensions for running. See Number 8 in the End notes (last page of the manual) for the pausing method (pushing a button on the control board).
Windell OskayKeymasterWere you able to determine what the problem was?
Windell OskayKeymasterI’ve updated our hardware reference design, and moved it over to github. You can download the schematics, circuit board design, and bill of materials as part of the package: https://github.com/evil-mad/MeggyJrRGB/
Windell OskayKeymasterThe PC sync is supposed to be supported “out of the box” (without reflashing the Bulbdial). I have not tried this in a while, and it is possible that something has changed in the libraries. It is more likely that you’re simply not connecting for some other reason. If you’re on Windows or have other serial devices connected, you might try other serial ports within the program, to see if you can connect.
Windell OskayKeymasterHi Ted,
I believe that in the EggBot settings, you can configure either the “Pen up” or “Pen down” position to be the larger number, so I think that you should be in good shape as soon as you adjust those values. Also, is there a chance that you put the pen arm together in the “mirror image” configuration? We did receive your message about the coupler, and we have not made it through today’s e-mail yet.Windell OskayKeymasterYou can get all of the measurements that you need to by opening the original files within Inkscape, and looking at the dimensions there. If you’ve done some kind of exporting that has lost the dimensions, then you should also double check that the curves came exported cleanly, and that your circles still look like circles, for example.
Windell OskayKeymasterAwesome– glad to hear that you like it. :D
For the sleep mode, hold the Night button just until the LEDs begin to dim, and then let go. The LEDs should continue to dim, until off. When you press the Night button again, they’ll come back up (on the same night). And yes, we left the demo mode in the code. Only, now, it’s the secret, undocumented demo mode. ;) Hold down the Night button at reset time, and then let go.Windell OskayKeymasterThe “enable motors” command doesn’t actually do anything to the servo, it just turns on power to the steppers. That suggests that it could be a power supply problem or (yes) some other problem on the EBB. Are you using the original power supply?
Windell OskayKeymasterAwesome– and I apologize for not having the new installer ready yet. We’re working full time on shipping robots right now, and will get back to this soon. :)
