April 2011 Wired Cover

Huge congratulations go out to our dear friend and rockstar founder of Adafruit Industries, Limor Fried, on being the first female engineer featured on the cover of Wired magazine!

And well deserved - congrats, Lady Ada!

It's a great achievement, but I notice that her lip ring isn't visible... just a little air brushing to make her look more appealing to a broader base of people?

But don't let my griping (which is solely aimed at Wired!) limit this achievement! Congrats Lady Ada!

I was thinking the same thing. I didn't recognize her and wouldn't have without the caption.

yeah, I did think she looked a little photoshopped, which is somewhat ironic.

In Wired's defense, they were obviously aiming for an homage to the "Rosie the Riveter" poster, which is far from photorealistic.

At Boing Boing and elsewhere, Fried commented: "The cover is stylized but that is really what I looked like. I was not 'plasticized' or 'heavily photoshopped'. if I take off my glasses, have my hair done, and wear make-up its what I look like."

First woman engineer ever on the cover of Wired?

Hurrah, Ms. Fried.

Wired turned 18 in Jan. 2011.
